MLK DAY OF SERVICE IS JANUARY 19, 2009

This past August, CNCS (Corporation for National and Community Service) selected 4 national MLK Day of Service expansion sites for 2009, including the Triad region of North Carolina, Boston, Chicago and Denver.  There will be increased media publicity for all 4 locations.

As part of this special recognition year emphasis, the AAA (Area Agency on Aging) and Service Corps are jointly sponsoring a special food drive during the month of January.  Rather than just a "day of service, " the intergenerational sponsors are celebrating a "month of service" in honor of Dr. King.  The collected food will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Collection boxes are located on the 4th floor at the COG.  COME ONE!  COME ALL!  COLLECT CANS FROM FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.  Tell them we need their help to replenish the Food Bank's supplies after the holidays deplete their shelves.  Job loss and the current economy mean more folks than ever need food assistance this year.  After all, hunger isn't just for Christmas.  It's year-round.

PLEASE HELP! Bring some cans every week and watch our collection grow.

Coretta Scott King said, " The greatest birthday gift my husband could receive is if people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds  celebrated the holiday by performing individual acts of kindness through service to others."

Please be kind and help others by donating to the food drive.
